As you suggest, Bond and the Saint do seem to be interconnected in a number of ways. That said, Ian Ogilvy, popularly thought to have been a serious candidate for Bond, was never screentested for Bond, although he did record some Bond audio books, of course. It always seemed to me, for example, that Clive Owen was originally identified as a potential Bond by the press simply because he looked good in a dinner suit in the film Croupier. I seen Andrew Clarke's names in the list of potential actors, but I don't know any more. As for David Robb, though, I was able to correspond with him a few years ago and I asked him about the casting rumours. Turns out he was never screentested. I've written about it here: http://jamesbondmemes.blogspot.co.uk/2011/09/some-men-who-press-thought-would-be.htmlEdward Biddulphhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13958778222555710461noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-117416349695015821.post-32848597848790944262013-08-12T03:59:50.182+01:002013-08-12T03:59:50.182+01:00I recall the frenzy surrounding the Bond casting a...I recall the frenzy surrounding the Bond casting after Pierce Brosnan. Eric Bana was participating in a car race here in Australia and one of the announcers blurted out something like "And here comes Eric Bana, Mr James Bond, on the outside edge of the track in his Ford", and suddenly, Bana was a contender for the role. The announcer later claimed that he just said it without thinking, but the press pounced on it. Bana later stated that he was not approached for the role. <br />Of course, this sort of speculation occurred every couple of years throughout the 1980s when Roger Moore kept threatening to quit the role. There was talk of the role possibly being offered to a Scottish actor named David Robb (who appeared in "Downton Abbey" in 2010) and an Australian fellow named Andrew Clarke, although I can't find any references as to whether they were actually approached, but this is what I had read in TV Week magazine here in Australia back then. Man, the things my memory retains when there are days when I can't remember my home phone number. teeritzhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05421337385763144173noreply@blogger.com
