I think there are actually a lot of forerunners to what came later in the Bond novels and films in the works of Jules Verne and other science fiction/adventure writers of the era. One thinks of Karl Stromberg and his Atlantis base in particular. Keep up the good work; I'd not heard of this p[articular novel or it's content before your post.
